Sampung Kalbo

In with the new “do”!

Sampu… bow!

New Moon

I won’t be available to watch the the advanced screening of New Moon on friday because my KJ (kill joy) friend invited me to a dinner get together. Good thing I have these to keep me occupied =D

I was crazy about Edward back in the Twilight days but now… tsk boy oh boy! Look at Jacob…

I’ve Had it with Movie Critics

No offense to movie critics really… it’s just that I’m really shallow when it comes to movies and I have no professional background whatsoever so what I’m about to post, this is just me.

It has become a habit to read some critics’ review before I decide whether or not to watch a movie. When a movie seems interesting and the critics says it’s bad, I end up not watching the movie at the cinema and just watch dvd afterwards or not watch the movie at all. Either way, I end up regretting my decision because there will always be this someone who’ll tell you that the movie was great.

But when I like the movie so much, I skip the reading the reviews part and watch the movie first before I read the critics’ review – this is what I did with Transformers and am very thankful that I did watch the movie because a movie like Transformers 2 can’t possibly be 19% right?! I mean COME ON! It can’t be that BAD!?

Anyway, what happened with 2012 is a different story. Because I love end-of-the-world movies so much and couldn’t wait till weekend, I read up some movie critics’ reviews for some spoilers and they said all bad things imaginable. They were very effective that I almost ended up not watching the movie. Good thing a friend of mine said the movie is good so hb and I gave it a shot and we are grateful we did because watching the movie was one hell of a ride! I think it is one of the most realistic end-of-the-world movies out there and believe me, I’ve seen a lot!

This Is It Part 2

Finally, I was able to watch the movie last Saturday. I was very worried when I heard about the typhoon scheduled to land during the weekend. What’s worse,  the storm signal here in Manila was raised to 3! My God, that typhoon could’ve picked a better schedule. Grrr!

Anyway, even though we’ve experienced very strong winds at around 7 am, thank God because at 9 am, the weather has greatly improved and we were able to pick up my parents from Antipolo and proceed to Greenbelt.

Mom and Dad

The movie was amazing! It captured Michael’s genius at 50, it showed his sensitivity to people, great talent, and love for his craft. Here are some excepts from one of Michael’s closest friends – Elizabeth Taylor:

To say the man is a genius is an understatement. He cradles each note, coaxes the music to depths beyond reality.

You owe it to yourselves and your loved ones to see this again and again. Memorize it and say to yourselves, “I saw genius in my lifetime”

And we have this piece of film to remind us forever and ever that once there was such a man. God kissed him.

I was speechless and teary eyed after the movie. Elizabeth has summarized the entire ”This Is It” experience spot on!

… may the world appreciate his efforts in making this world a better place rather than ridicule his peculiarities.

“I want to say to Michael’s children, there wasn’t nothing strange about your daddy, it was strange what your daddy had to deal with. He dealt with it anyway. He dealt with it for us.” – Al Sharpton

… and I share Stevie Wonder’s sentiment when he said:

“This is a moment I wished I wouldn’t live to see … As much as we may feel that we need Michael here with us, God must have needed him far more.”

…I’m ending this post by sharing these 2 videos, an opportunity to get to know him more.

Grey’s Anatomy Quotes

Some quotes from Grey’s Anatomy:

“Okay, here it is, your choice… it’s simple, her or me, and I’m sure she is really great. But Derek, I love you, in a really, really big pretend to like your taste in music, let you eat the last piece of cheesecake, hold a radio over my head outside your window, unfortunate way that makes me hate you, love you. So pick me, choose me, love me.” ~Meredith Grey

“You don’t get to call me a whore. When I met you, I thought I had found the person that I was going to spend the rest of my life with. I was done. So all the boys and all the bars and all the obvious daddy issues, who cared, because I was done. You left me. You chose Addison. I’m all glued back together now. I make no apologies for how I chose to repair what you broke. You don’t get to call me a whore.” ~Meredith Grey

You know how when you were a little kid and you believed in fairy tales, that fantasy of what your life would be, white dress, prince charming who would carry you away to a castle on a hill. You would lie in bed at night and close your eyes and you had complete and utter faith. Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, Prince Charming, they were so close you could taste them, but eventually you grow up, one day you open your eyes and the fairy tale disappears. Most people turn to the things and people they can trust. But the thing is its hard to let go of that fairy tale entirely cause almost everyone has that smallest bit of hope, of faith, that one day they will open their eyes and it will come true. ~Meredith Grey

Christmas makes you want to be with people you love. I’m not saying this to hurt you, or because I want to leave you, because I don’t. Meredith wasn’t a fling. She wasn’t revenge. I fell in love with her. That doesn’t go away because I decided to stay with you. ~Derek Shepherd

Pain, you just have to ride it out, hope it goes away on its own, hope the wound that caused it heals. There are no solutions, no easy answers, you just breath deep and wait for it to subside. Most of the time pain can be managed but sometimes the pain gets you where you least expect it. Hits way below the belt and doesn’t let up. Pain, you just have to fight through, because the truth is you can’t outrun it and life always makes more. ~Meredith Grey

Look I was married for 11 years. Addison is my family. That is 11 Thanksgiving’s, 11 birthdays, 11 Christmas’s, and in one day I am supposed to sign a piece of paper and end my family? A person doesn’t do that, not without a little hesitation. I’m entitled to a little uncertainty here. Just a moment to understand the magnitude of what it means to cut somebody out of my life. I am entitled to at least one moment of painful doubt and a little understanding from you would be nice. ~Derek Shephered

You know what? For just a moment, I’m not Dr. Yang and you’re not Dr. Shepherd. You’re the guy who screwed up my friend. The guy who drove her to get a dog she can’t keep, the dog she only got because her boyfriend lied to her about his wife. ~Christine Yang

Let’s say you were drafted to a team that wasn’t your first pick, you don’t like the players, you hate the way the way they play the game, you even think that the quarterback is full of crap, the quarterback is a pain in the ass. But it’s your team, you don’t quit, you don’t talk to the press, you don’t bitch to the coach, you just go out there every sunday, and you make the blocks, and you take the hits, and you play to win. You show up and you play because it’s your freakin team. ~Alex Karev

You’re right, It’s not easy for me to be away from the OR, It’s not easy for me to sit in front of you or any authority figure for that matter and not be able to give the exact answer you wanna hear. I’m the one with the answers, I’ve always been the one with the answers but right now sir I don’t have any.
How do you keep your edge sir? Because I watch you and you’ve been doing this a long time and you’re clean, you’re focused, you do your job, nothing gets to you, and the thing is sir, I was like that until I got here, until I started doing this job,and now everything is fuzzy..I can’t tell you what happened in that room, and before, I could have, no guilt, no loyalty, no problem. Before I wouldn’t even have been inside that room, I wouldn’t have gotten involved, I would have never have frozen in surgery, and I would have told him what he should do. I had an edge sir and I’ve lost it, and I need it back, so if you could just tell me how you keep your words and how not to be affected. I know I could be a great surgeon, so if you could just give me the answers, I would really appreciate it. ~Christina Yang

I have the answers but I can’t tell you. I’m not gonna be responsible for you becoming less human. ~Richard Webber

I’m a pretty girl. I’m not being arrogant, It’s just kind of a fact. For a long time I made a carrer from my looks so I get it, I’m a pretty girl. And not from a certain angle kind of way but in an obvious way. It’s the blond thing and the big boobs thing, big boobs are kid obvious pretty if you know what I mean. That’s how men see me. I’m not a smart girl or an interesting girl, I’m a pretty girl. The blond and the boobs, it confuses guys into thinking I’m someone else and I’m used to it. I’m used to them walking away when they realize but then Danny goes and asks me to marry him. He doesn’t make me feel like I’m a pretty girl, he makes me feel like me, I think he may know me. ~Izzy Stevens

What they’re doing is not about love Derick, well It’s like you, like how you pretend to love me but really you’re just using me to fill some need you have to be a good guy. ~Addison Shepherd

I want you to care. I sleep with your best friend and you walk away, he comes here from New York and rubs it in your face and still you get a good night’s sleep, what do I have to do? Oh I know, maybe what I should do is go out on a date with the vet because that seems to be something that sents to a blind rage. Oh wait that might not work either because I’m not Meredith Grey! ~Addison Shepherd

My Sassy Girl

“First, don’t ask her to be feminine.
Second, don’t let her drink over three glasses. She’ll beat someone.
At a cafe, drink coffee instead of coke or juice.
If she hits you, act like it hurts. If it hurts, act like it doesn’t.
On your 100th day together, give her a rose during her class. She’ll like it a lot.
Make sure you learn fencing and squash.
Also, be prepared to go to prison sometimes.
If she says she’ll kill you, don’t take it lightly. You’ll feel better.
If her feet hurts, exchange shoes with her.
Finally, she likes to write. Encourage her.”
